Mitacs Globalink Research Internship 2027: Funded Research Opportunity in Canada for Undergraduates

International research opportunity in Canada? Applications are now open for the 2027 Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI), giving eligible undergraduate students the chance to spend 12 weeks conducting research at Canadian academic institutions while gaining international academic and professional experience.

The competitive programme is designed for undergraduate students from eligible international partner countries and offers research placements in fields ranging from science, engineering and mathematics to humanities and social sciences. Interns work under the supervision of Canadian faculty members and gain exposure to Canada's research environment.

What does the internship offer?

Successful participants can receive support that includes:

• Contribution toward round-trip airfare to Canada

• Housing stipend

• Funding toward food and incidental expenses

• Transportation support from the Canadian airport to accommodation

• Support toward student enrollment fees

• Emergency health insurance for the internship period

• Support from student mentors

• Access to professional development courses and industry events

The internship lasts 12 consecutive weeks and takes place between May and October 2027. Mitacs currently lists more than 70 Canadian academic institutions participating in the programm

Who can apply?

Applicants for the 2027 cohort generally must:

• Be at least 18 years old when applying.

• Be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or combined undergraduate/master's programme at an eligible institution.

• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate study or be enrolled in the second year, depending on country-specific requirements.

• Have one to three semesters remaining in their programme as of fall 2027.

• Meet the academic requirements for their country or international partner.

• Be able to communicate effectively in the language required by their selected research project.

• Be available for a 12-week internship starting between May 1 and July 31, 2027.

• Not have previously received a Mitacs Globalink Research Internship.

Applicants must also select research projects according to Mitacs' application requirements, including projects across at least three Canadian provinces.

Which countries are eligible?

The 2027 programme is currently open to students from specific countries and regions, including Austria, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Jordan, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Important: Eligibility is country- and institution-specific. Cameroon is not currently listed among Mitacs' 2027 eligible countries/regions, so students applying from Cameroon should not assume they are eligible. Always check Mitacs' official eligibility list before preparing an application.
