Automatic tuition‑fee discounts of £5,000‑£10,000 per year for eligible international undergraduates and £4,000‑£9,000 for international postgraduates starting September 2027 (or January 2028).

What the awards cover

The University of East Anglia (UEA) provides two main merit‑based scholarships for international students in the 2027 entry year.

  • International Undergraduate Merit Scholarship – a discount of £5,000, £7,000 or £10,000 per year depending on the faculty and programme. The highest amount applies to lab‑based science courses; a mid‑range amount to Economics, Law, Psychology and Business; and a base amount to all other eligible courses. The award is automatic once an offer is made and the student pays overseas fees.

  • International Postgraduate Merit Scholarship – a discount of £4,000‑£9,000 per year for full‑time taught postgraduate or PGCE programmes. The exact figure depends on the applicant’s country group and the classification of their previous degree. The scholarship is applied automatically after an offer is issued.

Who can apply

  • Applicants must be non‑UK fee‑paying students.
  • The undergraduate award is open to all eligible undergraduate programmes starting September 2027, except MBBS Medicine, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dental Surgery and degree apprenticeships.
  • The postgraduate award is open to full‑time taught master’s or PGCE programmes starting September 2027 or January 2028, excluding MBBS, integrated masters, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, certain plant‑science programmes, PGCert/PGDip, Pre‑Masters and online/distance courses.
  • Students already receiving full external sponsorship for fees are not eligible.
  • No separate application is required; the scholarships are granted automatically after a course offer is confirmed.

How the awards are combined

Both merit scholarships can be held together with the International Early Payment Awards (up to an additional £1,500 for September starts). They cannot be combined with most other higher‑value UEA scholarships.

How to apply

  1. Choose an eligible programme on the UEA website or via UCAS (undergraduate) / the UEA postgraduate portal.
  2. Submit your course application before the programme’s deadline.
  3. If you receive an offer and are classified as an international fee‑payer, the relevant merit scholarship will be confirmed automatically.
  4. To benefit from early‑payment discounts, pay the required deposit or full fees by the dates specified on the scholarship pages.

How to apply

Steps

  • Select a programme – use the UEA Scholarships Finder to filter by 2027 entry, school and country.
  • Apply for the course – undergraduate applicants apply through UCAS; postgraduate applicants apply directly via the UEA online portal.
  • Receive an offer – once the university makes an offer, the automatic merit scholarship will be added to your offer letter if you meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Pay early (optional) – meet the early‑payment deadlines to claim additional discounts.

Eligibility notes

Excludes MBBS Medicine, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dental Surgery, degree apprenticeships, integrated master’s programmes, PGCert/PGDip, Pre‑Masters and online/distance courses. Students with full external fee sponsorship are not eligible.
